I was trained and initiated to Reiki, as a practitioner and then to Master/Teacher of: ‘THE USUI SYSTEM OF NATURAL HEALING’ by Elspeth Walker, 'Reiki Master/ Teacher’ Edinburgh, Scotland.

I worked for many years at the Community Health Project in Edinburgh. The organization offers the community there a wide range of alternative therapies, including Reiki. I felt particularly drawn to Reiki, as it can help all conditions, mind, body and soul. Having practiced on friends and family, I began offering Reiki at a greatly reduced price to those that could not have afforded it otherwise.

Seeing the difference it can make to peoples’ lives I felt compelled to go further in my studies. I attended classes of Walid Ghoneim a Reiki Master in Edinburgh. He went back to the original roots of Reiki, and with his vast knowledge of Reiki history, method and experience he furthered my knowledge and abilities greatly.

In June 2002 I was initiated to ‘KARUNA REIKI MASTER’ by William Lee Rand, the founder. I am fully certified by 'The International Center for Reiki’, Southfield, MI, USA . The graduation and initiation took place in Glastonbury and Stonehenge, England.

In August 2002 I moved to the USA and am now practicing Reiki and Karuna Reiki here in Spencerport, Rochester and surrounding areas.

I am the mother of two and am Grandmother of a beautiful little girl Liesel May and recently again with the birth of her brother Ross Everett Nygard!

Certified KARUNA REIKI PRACTITIONER/MASTER/TEACHER by William Rand (Founder of Karuna Reiki and Director of 'The International Center for Reiki Training, ICRT'.

I am also certified and registered by 'The International Association for Reiki Practitioners, IARP', USA

Usui drew disciples of his teachings, and later Usui's succession was passed on to Chujiro Hayashi (Ibid). In the 1930's, a dying Japanese-American, Hawayo Takato, returned to Japan and encountered Reiki practitioners whom, it is claimed, were able to heal her.

She became the first woman Reiki Master and first American Reiki Master, and it is she who initiated Reiki training in the United States by touring the country in the 1970's (ibid, 383).

Barbara Weber Ray, in Atlanta, Georgia, became a teacher of the methods of initiating other Reiki Masters in 1978; and Ray founded the American Reiki Association, later called The Radiance Technique Association International (Ibid). Reiki is also known as the Usui Shiko Ryoho System of Healing (Ibid, 382).

Barbara Carlton affiliates with The International Center for Reiki Training and William Rand. She teaches to their standards and above, in all Reiki and Karuna Reiki levels.
